Setting Up The WindowsNT Dialer

These instructions will take you step-by-step through the process to setup your computer to dial into Jaluo Dot Com I-Net DialUp. You will need to have either your Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM or floppy disks available. The manufacturer of your computer should have provided these.

NOTE : If you have installed Service Pack #2, you will need to download a RAS fix from Microsoft. ( http://www.Microsoft.com/kb/articles/q161/3/68.htm )

  1. Double-click on My Computer.
  2. Double-click on Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on Network.
  4. Click on the Services tab.
  5. If you have a service installed called Remote Access Service then skip to step #9. Otherwise continue on with the next step.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click Remote Access Service.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Remote Access Service.
  10. Click Properties.
  11. A list of installed modem is displayed. Click on the one you want to dial out with.
  12. Click Network.
  13. Under the Dial out Protocols section, the only box that should be checked is TCP/IP.
  14. Under the Server Settings section, the only box that should be checked is TCP/IP. You should also have Allow any authentication include clear text selected.
  15. Click OK.
  16. Click Configure.
  17. Select Dial out only.
  18. Click OK.
  19. Click Continue.
  20. Click on the Protocols tab.
  21. If you have a protocol installed called TCP/IP Protocol then skip to step #25. Otherwise continue on with the next step.
  22. Click Add.
  23. Click on TCP/IP Protocol.
  24. Click OK.
  25. Click Close.

    At this point, Windows may prompt you to restart your computer. Answer yes to this question and continue on with the next step once your computer has restarted.

  26. Double-click on My Computer.
  27. Double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
  28. If you have never used Dial-Up Networking before, you will get a box telling you that the phonebook is empty. Click OK . If you did not see this message, click the New button.
  29. Type Jaluo in the Entry name box.
  30. Type your dial-up number in the number box.
  31. Click on the Server tab.
  32. Put a checkmark next to TCP/IP and Enable software compression. If any other boxes are checked, remove the checkmarks.
  33. Click on TCP/IP Settings.
  34. Click on Specify name server addresses .
  35. In the Primary DNS box type in 170.147.45.165 .
  36. In the Secondary DNS box type in 170.147.45.166 .
  37. Make sure that both boxes at the bottom are checked. If they aren't, place a checkmark next to each one.
  38. Click OK.
  39. Click on the Security tab.
  40. Click on Accept any authentication including clear text..
  41. Click OK.
  42. Click Dial.
  43. In the User name box, type in your UserID.
  44. In the Password box, type in your password.
  45. If there is anything in the Domain box, delete it. This box should be blank.
  46. Click on Save password.
  47. Click OK.

At this point you should hear your modem dial and connect. It will then go through a phase where it verifies your username and password. If that process is successful, you will see the word Authenticated flash briefly and then the window will be automatically added to your system tray. You can now startup any of your internet programs such as Netscape or Eudora.
