Dominion Farms and Luo Communities Everywhere(Luocome) partner to develop Luo Villages

Dominion Farms has partnered with Luocome to bring a profitable farming business model to all villages in our Luo communities. Dominion’s philosophy of “no handouts” and Luocomes’s philosophy of creating employment in the village have found a natural relationship.

Under this partnership, Dominion Farms will supply the initial farming and irrigation equipments at a reasonable price to the village CBO. The CBO and Dominion will share pro-rata the income generated from the harvest. According to Calvin Burgess, the CEO of Dominion Farms, the method used by Dominion produces about 35 bags of grain per acre compared to our traditional way that produces only about 5 bags per acre.

Luocome will avail at least 100 contiguous acres of land from each village/clan for large scale modern farming. The land shall be procured through the association of each Village Diaspora Committee (VDC) and their Community Block Organization (CBO) counterparts. The land shall be used for farming products such as vegetables, corn, fish, honey, sunflower, soybean, cotton , rice,
millet, and sorghum. This land is preferable to be near a year round supply of water for irrigation for those crops that need irrigation water.

Dominion Farms of the Dominion Group, headquartered in Edmond, Oklahoma already operates a 17,000 acre farm at Yala Swamp that employs 350 full time employees and another 1,000 people casually in as needed basis. Mr. Burgess says, “I appreciate all that can be done to help the Luo people. I believe that the emphasis for helping Africa needs to be turned from a system of donations to a system of investment. When a person gives a donation his responsibility is over; however when a person invests in a country it is his responsibility to make sure his investment works. Africa needs sustained investment not hit and miss donations.”

Luocome is a non profit organization using the skills and resources of Luo Communities Everywhere in Diaspora to create economic empowerment in Luo Community villages in Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania. Luocome works with firms interested in developing farming, mining and other income generating opportunities in the Luo Communities in the East African
region. Luocome is headquartered in Dayton, Ohio.

Much blessings!
