OBITUARY

With much regret we announce the passing of Archibald Omondi Odenyo.

Archie was born on May 1, 1962, in Kisumu, Kenya. He was the only child born from the union of Amos Otieno Odenyo (of Regea Village, Gem, Kenya), and Judith Olal (of Ramula Village, South Gem, Kenya).

Archie attended primary schools in Kisumu and Mombasa.

From 1975-1978, Archie lived with his father in New York City, as well as with his uncles Booker Odenyo and Daniel Odenyo in Blacksburg, Virginia. In 1978, Archie returned to Kenya and completed his secondary studies at St. Mary's Yala and Homa-Bay High School.

In addition to living with his mother and step-father (James Nyamori), Archie was raised and loved by an extended family, including his aunt Olivia Agwa.

In 1985, Archie immigrated to the United States where he attended Radford University and George Mason University. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Archie was employed as a Telecommunications Manager, beginning with AT&T in Virginia and Atlanta, and most recently with ESPIRE in Maryland. Beginning in 2006, Archie was employed as a Paratransit Manager in Northern Virginia.

In 1990, Archie married Florence Oromo of Karachuonyo, Kenya. This union was blessed with two sons, Archie Jr. (1993) and Andrew Otieno (1995). Archie also has two children, twins, Amos Odenyo and Katherine Odenyo, born in Kenya in 1986.

Archie leaves behind not only his wife, children and parents, but siblings Martin Odera Odenyo, Dina Atieno Odenyo, Penina Nyamori, Joshua Nyamori, Rebecca Nyamori, and Victor Nyamori, uncles Victor Odenyo, Booker Odenyo, aunts Olivia Agwa, Olga Onyango, and Rosalie Awour Odhiambo. Archie leaves behind cousins Kenneth Agwa and Dorothy Oreng of Maryland, Leonard Odhiambo of New York, Graham Odenyo, Luther Odenyo, and Amos Odenyo of Maryland, Rosebella Odenyo of Virginia, Yolanda Odenyo of Oklahoma, as well as numerous cousins in Kenya and Sweden.

Archie is remembered by countless friends for having an outgoing and friendly personality with a heartfelt laugh.

A memorial service for Archie will be held on March 31, 2007 in Northern Virginia. Location and time to be determined.
