Anywaa - Luo Community in Ethiopia

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you very much for your effort to identify the over due need of Luo society all over the world. My name is Nyikaw Ochalla from Gambela, Ethiopia. I am an Anywaa or Anuak ethnic, a branch of Luo community. As you may be aware, the Anywaa community has been receiving various forms of injustice and the world seems to have limited knowldege or deliberately ignored their suffering. I am also certain that it is a similar trend in other community members in the African continent including the major scale of human rights atrocities in Uganda. What is happening to the Anywaa society in Ethiopia and south Sudan and the Acholi community in Uganda should alert the Luo community in general and enable them to network with each other to stop campaign of atrocities against our community. We are very powerful community with so many educated individuals to highlight our sufferings to the
international community. This is a very good start to link up our community
members all over the world. We run a charitiable organisation on behalf of the
Anywaa community world-wide and you can find it at http://www.anywaa-survival.org . The word survival has become a very important one in our struggle to maintain our identity amid various forces that aim to destroy us as people and occupy our vast and rich territories. We are the first indigenous Anywaa community organisation that has alerted the world regarding ethnic cleansing policies of the Ethiopian government. Anyway, let's keep in touch as a community to challenge the future together. I live in Reading, United Kingdom. Can I suggest that you use Anywaa(Anuak) as we commonly know ourselves as Anywaa not Anuak. This will be the beginning to change what other people have created but not known to the community. I would be very glad to assist in various aspect of Luo project if time permits. Keep it up!
