MANY FAMILIES IN NYANZA DISPLACED BY RISING FLOOD WATERS AS RIVERS BURSTS THEIR BANKS RENDERING MANY PEOPLE HOMELESS

Many parts of lower areas of NyanzaProvince has been experiencing heavy floods, which has left thousands of families homeless.
 
The displaced families urgently needed help in terms of tents, anti-malarial drugs, food, as well as mosquito nets. Grain granaries and domestic households have also been sweepted away by rising waters of both River Nyando and Ombey in the Kano plains living thousand of families homeless and needed relief food.
 
The Red Cross Society personnel have been busy around Ahero town and its environs distributing blankets, food and drugs. But those whose areas are devastated like Miwani where many have been submerged and cut off from the rest of Nyando district also need urgent help.
 
The Nyanza Deputy P.C Mr.Joel Sigei, has however, warned the residents to move to the higher ground following reports that one man had drowned in Ahero area. The floods have also affected the previously safe areas like Nyamasaria in the outskirts of KisumuCity where many houses have submerged in the water sending the residents fleeing to safety areas.
 
In Migori,both Kuja and Migori rivers burst their banks flooding larger areas of Ndiwa  and Kakoth areas forcing people to abandon their homes .And even the little known River Ongoche also burst its banks flooding a large area in downstream.
 
The former asstatant Ministare Mr.Zablon Owigo Olang who is currently the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lake Basin Development has appealed to the government to come to the rescue of Nyatike residents.He said he was pleased that the Migori D.C and his team were actively monitoring the situation and would inform the government adequately about the latest development on the ground.
 
Mr. Olang a two time Ndhiwa MP pleaded with those living on the higher ground to give shelter to the victims until the current rains subdied .he said many areas of lower parts of Central and North Kadem are affected as the waters of River Kuja was now flowing inside the villages sending the inhabitants fleeing in search of the shelters in higher grounds    
 
This is one of the worsets flood, said Mr. Lang who appealed to the government to declare the current fllod a national calamity and catastrophe. He said  many people would need relief for a long period of time because their grains have been swept away.
 
Fishermen are said to be making a roaring kill in the shallow water running through the villages and children could be seen in groups tying their lucks.
