Education Falling

Amosi Akelo nyar Kager.

My comment as follows.

Gimoro chanda kae. Asomo article mar Eng Ongowo. I agree with his concerns for falling education in luo nyanza. But I have a feeling that he has looked at this issue from one perspective, that luo MP's are to blame - in other words Luos are to blame for their education problems. I have checked the tracks of other MPs in this country. None has achieved anything unless he is in the president's tribe. Or the president's survival arithmetic.

Let me put a thesis here. Luo MPs are no different from those of other tribes. Our education problems have little. - Very little to do with Raila.

Having said that, I must now offer some reality check on what is happening. See below, a cut-and-paste article from the Kenya times Newspaper of last week.

>>>>In the top ten positions nationwide, Rift Valley Province came second to Nairobi producing three candidates, Central Province had two, while Eastern and Western produced one candidate each. Coast, Nyanza and North Eastern provinces all missed out in the top ten slots.

In the top 100 performers, Nairobi province had 48 candidates, Central 24, Rift valley 23, Eastern 10, while Western, Coast and Nyanza had eight, four and three candidates respectively.

No candidate from North Eastern Province featured among the top 100 candidates overall.

In the general performance, Eldoret Municipality emerged tops with a mean score of 277.67 with a total of 3,652 candidates.

Nairobi, with the biggest number of candidates came second with a mean score of 275.48. In all, City schools presented 29,856 candidates. Thika Municipality came third scoring 273.41 with a total of 1,985 candidates.

Others in the top ten positions are Baringo 270.6 with 7,733 candidates at fourth position, Kitale Municipality came fifth with 269.85 from 1,874 candidates, Koibatek with a mean score of 269.21 from 4,260 candidates, Mombasa Municipality with a mean score of 268.49 from 11,043 candidates, Keiyo with a mean score of 267.96 from 5,139 candidates, Uasin Gishu with 266.72 from 11,359 candidates and Kirinyaga with a mean score of 266.44 from 10,816 candidates. Kisumu City was position 46 with a mean score of 243.28 from 4,478 candidates. <<<<<<

If you look keenly at this piece, please note the heavy presence of Rift Valley, and take note of the speed that Central Province is catching up. Clearly, education has a lot to do with the presidency. Period!

I have worked in senior positions with blue-chip employers. For the last 10 years I have observed that when jobs are advertised, luos don't apply. In fact most applicants are from the former and current presidents region. Why? Luos don't qualify. Why? There has been a systematic genocide of the "intelligence bank" of the luo since 1982.

In other words, the population in Kibera has increased.

For those few who are lucky and managed to obtain good education and good jobs, their hard earned luck has gone several ways. From repairing car after travelling home on the bad roads, to buying medicine because their kin are sick due to unclean water supply or stale food due to lack of electricity to power a fridge. The men have probably married from another tribe. Meaning at least half their income is gone elsewhere.

The maximum term of a president is 10 years. A child who was in standard 3 (8yrs old) will be 18 at the end of a presidency. That generation of luos born within that period are condemned. Simple.

Now. Come to think of it. Don't you think you will save a little more if Raila became president? Think the big picture. The tall buildings in town, consortiums that are buying parastatals, boards of directors.
