RE: The need for a new development strategy for Kaspul Kabondo

Dear Friends,

I am fine and hope you are too. I am writting this mail mainly to express my concern over your silence, especially after receiving my in puts towards Sports and Community Development.

I am certain that we were all engaged in one way or the other; final send off of the Luo elders'wife, and also much expectation from the London trip and subsequent state and future of ODM!!

Finally, both these now have to be past tense and we have to come back to the forum. As a matter of confirmation, apart from Jaluo .kom, did you all receive my suggestion? If yes, then what's your take at it?(Especially cclr. Shem Matibe?)

I am anxiously waiting for your response.

For those who didn’t receive a copy of the said document, I have decided to re - attach the same file for you sake.

Get back to me for any further clarification, should need be.

Sincerely, Festus.

Dear Cclr. Matibe,
Foremost, I wish to highly recognize in appreciation the efforts that Oyugis County Council has put in the improvement of Oyugis environment in terms of sanitation modernization of its structures.

It’s with pride that I confirm to you that if you keep up this pace, then glaringly the town has bright future and soon you’ll be one of the leading towns in terms of environmental conservation, or the “millennium” towns in that case, after Kisumu and Nakuru respectively. Of course Nairobi follows suit!! The idea of putting up the street light is yet another area of concern. Keep up the spirit.

On the other hand, I have the concern that in all these work, the youth has not been put into consideration. Most of the youth in the constituency dawdle any how, has nothing substantial at hand, and yet can’t afford as simple things as clean drinking water, leave a lone a meal in a day.

Some of these youths have attained their O - Level examinations, some passed well, and some also just performed averagely well. All the same, some of the said youths only attained K.C.P.E. level and due to obvious reasons of lack of fees, they didn’t continue to secondary school. A few among them have managed undergoing through tertiary education, but still lack employment.

What plans have the council, through the collaboration with the political leaders have for the youths?

MY OPINION:
At any given point, have we ever asked ourselves the essence of social activities in our lives? Or let me put it this way: How do social activities such as sports boost the economy of a country?

I strongly believe that if the council could consider introducing youth sports club within its set up, then a step forward in solving youth’s idleness will be attained.

This club, if formed, will be part and parcel of the council, and where necessary, some of the employees should form part of the same. On the other hand, it should also enable the unemployed but well talented youth be put into the council’s system as staff.

The introduction of this club could be a source of economic boost to the council, thus focus on initiating and supporting self sustainable projects for the purpose of club’s continuity. Such projects like small scale horticultural production or livestock production can be very viable, (Kambona? May be you can expound on how this component can be harmonized with sports so as to attain community development).

If need be, I can also circulate to you a document on the essence of Sports for Community Development.

If these projects are well initiated and managed, then youths who couldn’t have been employed by the council but form part of the club will be employed to provide labor in the projects. The sports in this case therefore will not just be a matter of kicking ball in the field, but a ground for education and empowerment to the youth, thus edusport.

To this point therefore, I have the following as the guidelines to the attainment of this dream.

FORMATION OF OYUGIS COUNTY COUNCIL SPORTS CLUB:

1. Holding a sensitization meeting with the council on the essence of sports within its system.

2. Sourcing for talented Players.

3. Identify playing grounds

4. Identify the source of Equipments

5. Identify trainers / Facilitators.

6. Identify areas of Priority for Edusport.(Areas of education).

Objectives:

1. Empower Youth within Oyugis through Sports.

2. Improve on external relations with other County/Town Councils.

3. To be the leading youth sensitive County Council in the country.

4. Enhance partnership with the Ministries of Youth affairs, Culture, Sports and Social Services locally and nationally

5. Address and reduce societal plights through Sports e.g. HIV/AIDS issues.

6. Provide education through edu-sport activities.

7. Offer favorable grounds of exposer to the talented youths in Sports.

8. Enhance partnership with local and national sports organizations and other ministries.

9. The club once formed, will be non political, denominational and charitable organization.

Kinds of Sports:

1. Foot Ball: Boys and Girls.
2. Net Ball: Girls
3. Volley Ball: Girls and Boys.
4. Fris bee: Boys and Girls. (Ultimate and Golf Frisbee.)

As a concerned group, we can still discuss a head and look into how to out source for players, trainers and equipments in the initial stages, playing ground (s)/ social centers and facilitators on capacity building workshops/ edu Sports.

Members, kindly feel free, get back to me and ask any necessary question in line with this matter.

Looking forward to reading from you soon,

Sincerely,

Festus Juma.
