Finance Minister Hon. Amos Kimunya Heckled and Booed in Minnesota

Joash Bwomandi wrote:

Hon Kimunya’s assertion that the economy of Kenya has grown for the last four years was more quantitative than qualitative. He merely presented increase of production but failed to show how that has translated into elevating the people’s standard of living.

Increase of Coffee production and export in statistical terms is raw data which does not tell us anything about the development of the country. The minister needed to put it in a more summative way as to how the common man has benefited from all the so called ‘good economic policies’ of the Narc government.

The best economy is the one which puts more disposable money into the pockets of its citizens who are then able to use the money in buying consumer goods. By disposable money I mean the remaining cash after all the necessities have been paid for. At the moment Kenyan are unable to buy even a kilo of sugar because it has more than doubled since the Narc government took power. School fees, fares and retail goods have gone up negating any increase in cash to the citizens. The increase in output has not translated in development as the gap between the rich and the poor is widening.

The vision 2030 reads well on paper but I wonder if Kenyans will ever buy into it since all the visionaries are only looking at Kenya from one mountain ( Mt. Kenya ). Kibaki could have included a person from Rusinga Island , Lake Turkana, Kerio Valley , Maasai Mara and many others so as to get all the perspectives of how they want Kenya to be in 2030. This could make it easier to convince Kenyans to buy into the vision without question. How do you intend to have a cohesive country when major appointments are skewed to one region? The President has to walk the talk before we can make even one step towards achieving the vision. Take an example of George Washington, first president of the USA , he had a choice of becoming a powerful president and authoritarian but he chose to lead this country with integrity and empowered the senate to make all major decisions and left a legacy every President has ever adhered to. You do not have to put a vision but do the contrary.

If it was my wish, Mr. Ogego should be recalled back to Kenya for I don’t think he is representing Kenya well. He can make a good DC or PC where he will have an opportunity to command, insult and give direction in the name of “Mzee amesema”. It was rather pathetic and a pity too, how Ogego can/called us people of the jungle. If we did not agree to lies of Kimunya about the security situation, we were not going to leave him go free. He is too emotional, arrogant, rapacious and undiplomatic. Why can’t such a people like Amina be ambassadors instead?
