Raila's boy rejected in luo land

By Joseph Ochieng'

The LDP point man in Alego-Usonga constituency, where the mother of the party's defacto leader Raila Amolo Odinga comes from, is facing a political waterloo.

Although the never serious Arthur Sammy Weya, the Member of Parliament for Alego, has sat on that seat for only one term, his people are already tired of him.

Luo elders from the area, some of whom happen to be Raila's own uncles, have vowed to kick out this ever smiling MP, who enjoys operating from Nairobi.

The good news however for Mr.Weya, who always goes back to his constituency when he hears that Raila will be touring his uncle's area, is that elections are nine months away.

But the bad news is that Raila's uncles have already identified a man whom they say is fit to replace the current MP.

Nairobi Lawyer, Paulo Amuga, the proprietor of Amuga and Company Advocates is now the favoured boy.

Professionals from the larger Siaya District recently met to scrutinize possible candidates for the alego seat, which they consider to be as good as vacant, and settled on lawyer Amuga.

These professionals said they were forced to assert their authority by picking their own candidates in Siaya district, to avert a planned move to impose candidates in the area.

They also want leaders who will speak for them and represent their people instead of the current crop of leaders who are used by the so called LDP power brokers.

The angry luo professionals from Siaya sited an example of the controversy laden Dominion Company which is largely in Alego, but does not benefit the locals.

They are annoyed by the fact that the company has its Headquarters in Raila Odinga's rural home in Bondo.

That was why the professionals came out breathing fire and brimstone to give their own personal resources to support and sell lawyer Amuga as their Alego MP in-waiting

The professionals then called their new kid in the block and took him home in style.

The tour, sponsored by the Luo professionals from Siaya was a sight to behold, as it was backed by over 20 cars, which criss-crossed the vast constituency.

All this time, they were accompanied by famous nyatiti players/singers who song in praise of their new boy while at the same time singing anti Weya songs.

However, majority of the Luos from the villages came out specifically to have a look at Amuga's new Volvo.

Some even marveled at the fact that their boy was the lawyer who saved one of their sons, the former Commissioner of Mines and Geology Colins Owayo at the Goldenberg inquiry.
