Re: Miguna in Political Deep waters

Joab,
Following your unsolicited advice to Nyando people, I have
four points:
  1. Arrogance is not going to end floods, or poverty or lack of clean water and poor infrastructure in Nyando. In fact, arrogance as an ideology, will end up just doing the opposite. Somebody who has primitive people skills cannot harness people's energies to do anything, even to build a path bridge, leave alone tame perennial floods.
  2. May be Joab has stayed outside for too long and has forgotten dholuo, and now he is telling us rather arrogantly that the word "arrogance" means "thuon" in dholuo? Ka ng'ano? American Luo?
For your information, Joab, arrogance  is not and has never been the same thing as "Thuon". Arrogance in dholuo is called "achaye" or "chayo ji". Thuon in English is heroic, strength and bravery.   Fabled Thuond Luo (Heroes of the Luo) included Gor Mahia, Lwanda Magere, Ng'ong'a K'odima, Okore Mak'Ogonda etc. At no instance have these heroes's characteristics been described as arrogance. Instead, they have been associated with bravery, leadership, fortitude, grace under pressure, inclusiveness consideration and humility (if somebody calls you uncle, just call them nephew and move on, don't start asking them "which of my sisters gave birth to you?" Learn from Uncle Moody).

There is only one way that the word thuon can be used in reference to arrogance of the Miguna type. Thuon also has a negative connotation. You know those people who are naturally uncooperative, anarchistic, "I must have my way-I am better than you-you are not in my league-who the f__ are you?- you mother__f___do you know me?- I have so much money in the bank-I went to Osgood Hall law school-I drive an SL 280-I am known all over the world type of   behaviour?"--yes, in that case it can be called arrogance--but there is another word for it--"achach" . People can say "ng'ane thuon", but the word thuon is being misused. Achach is more correct. Now if you look at the other translations of arrogance--"achaye"--you can see the root connection between "achach" and "achaye"
"ng'ane ochayo ji" (so and so despises people), and "ng'ane achach" (so and so is a shit-disturber).

Thus, both arrogance (achaye) and forcefulness (achach) are not and have never been ingredients for leadership anywhere, even if we go back to antiquity. Such a person is not a leader and is unsuitable for national position of Member of Parliament, least of all for Nyando where there is need for uniting people from diverse backgrounds, being an up and coming cosmopolitan area. Anybody whose biggest strength is achaye is least qualified to lead a people of whom the majority live below the poverty line. So it is highly arrogant on the part of joab to suggest that jokano needs an arrogant leader, as if we are all primitive. We may be poor but we are civil people.
  1. Yes, Nyamunga has failed as a leader and should be replaced. But not with somebody whose only credential is being a loud barking dog for Raila Odinga. We need a leader not a barking dog. We need real leaders who can mobilize our energies to achieve greater things, not somebody who thinks that he can embellish his resume and will be anointed by Raila. We all know the dangers of anointment that took place in 2002 that led us to have people like Nyamunga representing us in parliament. We hear money changed hands. So the nominations were for sale. That's why the MPs from the Luo region are very arrogant with respect to the people, because they are really not the representatives of the people in technical terms, but representatives of Raila. They do not have to respect or serve the people because it was not the people who elected them (apart from being mere rubber stamps). The only person they need to respect and serve is Raila, their true employer. They don't have to perform or serve to enhance people's lives during their term. They report to work at Raila's functions then they go home and sleep. They and lie with impunity. They go to parliament for technicality reasons so their seats are not declared vacant. All they need is Raila's blessing to say "ng'ane tosha" and the people's votes mean nothing.

All they need is to shout themselves hoarse how they support Riala. All they need are photos they took with Raila, how they picked Rialia from the airport, how they fundraised for Riala. Then they can tell you with a straight face that they are going to be MPs whether you like it or not, your votes notwithstanding. So what's the difference between Nyamunga and Miguna? Apart from the fact that the former's name starts with an N and the latter's starts with an M? The first is a devil we know, while the second is a devil we don't know. Now we are being told the latter's one major differentiating quality is arrogance, apart from being a loud barking dog. Yawa nyithindwa jo ka ma, to iyanyo wa kama nikech ang'o? Wakoso ang'o?

  1. Now to add insult to injury, yaani "medo ayany ewi hinyruok". How dare you joab compare a political "oyundi" like Miguna with the great son of Kano , Hon. Charles Matthews Onyango Midika. Joab, what do you smoke during your recreation time? Stick to weed please.
Onyango arum tidi winyo maduong is not a quisling, neither is he or has he ever been a lap dog of anybody. Onyango Arum moved the people of Nyando and Muhoroni from the eighteenth century to the twentieth century. Onyango Arum has never needed to pad his resume. He is not an arrogant fool who prattles about irrelevancies like "you will never go to Osgoode High School" or is it LawSchool? (And what exactly is so special about the so called "disgraceful" so called "law school" if it produces such unpolished, primitive feeble minded nincompoops like Miguna anyway?)
Spare us the arrogant lecture on the usefulness of arrogance, and first take your poodle to the High school of life. Then come back and beg politely for our votes., or else ng'ooooooooooooo! Kata kansila ok iyudi (you won't get even councillorship).

An ka mogeni,
Afuwo K'adhiang'
E dala mar Winam
