Re: No one wants to die

We live in what the owners describe with a sense of pride and confidence as luxurious apartments and others view as very expensive indeed. In any case, located near the road, they form a center of attraction from Bass lake and highway 61. Apart from their cost, everything about them is very satisfying to the renters.

As it is my custom, after a long day, 9:00 pm usually finds me in bed soundly sleeping. And once I lay to rest, I don't hear anything( I mean you can transport me from here to Bonyunyu,Kisii,Kenya)until 5:00 am.

For some strange reason, I answered a call by a friend last night, 12:00 am to say that we were under attack. As you are aware, coming from deep sleeping, it takes a while to be oneself. According to my friend there were a lot of police cars, ambulances and a lot of residents outside the building. I immediately jumped out of bed and first of all checked in other rooms to make sure that our children and omochokoro were safe. I was surprised to find out that though awake, the boys were very busy with their games and so much unaware of what was happening outside. I then rushed outside followed by omochokoro (grandson). Yes, indeed it was as my friend had described it.

It so happened that there was fire at one of the garages that was sending out huge smoke. As I stood there,a number of things went through my mind. Here are some of them.

1. No one wants to die.
2. In the moment of danger, all other things-money in the bank, cars, education, possessions, and what have you become utterly useless.
3.Once again, the following passages added a fresh meaning to me:

" It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."-Lamentations 3:22

"The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." Psalm 34:7

Here we were with my children and omochokoro totally un-aware of our surrounding. My wife would have come from work the next day, to find all of us dead. What a thought!

I am glad that I serve a living God; one who is constantly watching over His children. All I need to do is continue learning more of His goodness and count on Him to protect us at all times. How about you?

Just a thought.

Your friend and fellow traveler
