Politics is a dirty game.

Though at a distance, I followed Jaramogi, Mwite, Shikuku, Wamalwa, Matiba and others as they led the second liberation. Personal egos prevailed, a consensus failed, and Moi Won.

The opposition rallied and behold, the elections were again upon us. Raila, Kibaki, Nyachae, Wamalwa, Gitobu and others were unable to realize there was no 'I' in the word team. A consensus failed again.

Then something had to change.

Kenya saw its first coalition politics courtesy of Raila. Raila led NDP into KANU. I believe that he was sincere, to work with the government of the day since opposition politics was leaving his people poorer. Moi too was sincere, he meant to have a partner, not someone to bequeath. He bought into the coalition politics to stabilize the overwhelming support that KANU enjoyed but had started eroding with his imminent departure.

Then Moi made his worst decision ever, 'project Uhuru' and shit hit the fun. Raila, Kalonzo, felt utterly betrayed. Saitoti was humiliated. Mudavadi too felt betrayed but Moi quickly gave him a carrot or pacifier in VP appointment, and he stayed.

Kalonzo, Saitoti, & Kamotho left KANU mainly as rebellion rather than principle. Let us revisit this further down.

Ntimama & Raila left KANU as a matter of principle, and for this they need to be applauded. Some however believe that Raila left Moi under protest, and said 'Kibaki Tosha' merely because he had no chance or choice. Raila knew that he had no chance and had a strong desire to see KANU relinquish power. He could have said "Kalonzo Tosha.' That would not have been a change since Kalonzo was just from KANU. In hindsight, he could have said 'Nyachae Tosha' and at least the roads to western Kenya could have seen a facelift. Still Kalonzo had no role whatsoever in the second liberation, and so Kibaki was the right choice.

Everyone knew that Raila's role almost single handedly brought down KANU's reign of over forty years. Kibaki and his kin later bragged and called him 'Jamba.' What Raila did not know is that such a role brings about envy and even hate. Just remember the story of Joseph and his eleven brothers

Flamboyantly, Kamotho, Saitoti, Kalonzo, Ntimama and others left Kanu. Did they really follow Raila? One school of thought believes that they had nowhere to go. They were all naïve in opposition politics having been in government for so long, and had no idea even how to form their own political party. If they had not followed Raila, they would have perished just like a lion's cub would if the lioness dies. Following Raila was not because they believed he was a hero, it was just to show Moi how unhappy they were. Their action remind me of my friend who ended up marring a girl he really did not like, just to show the girlfriend he liked that she was not all that when she turned him down. My friends' marriage ended up the same way Saitoti and Kamotho left the opposition marriage.

Another school of thought believes that Raila persuaded Kalonzo that they leave the Kibaki government after Kibaki betrayed MoU. Later Kalonzo developed such covert feelings against Raila. Why? In this hypothesis, Kalonzo can to realization that opposition was not Canaan, and adopted a deep resentment against Raila and developed a deeply seated plan. Follow Raila and get close as you can. "When you are able, revenge against him for wrecking KANU and denying you your feeding bottle (read Foreign Affairs Ministry)!"

I remember, in the early days of Kibaki presidency, Raila & Kalonzo promised each other that they would take a bullet on behalf of the other. This was when Raila and Kalonzo were at Intercontinental Hotel, during the launching of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation - JOOF. It is amazing to note that Raila now says he will support Kalonzo only if he loses to Kalonzo in an election. Raila's sentiments are better than Kalonzo's. Lately Kalonzo has not voiced supporting Raila if Raila wins the primaries.

Those who live by the sword, die by the sword. Every evening, the chicken must come home to roost. A mangrove tree dwells in the river, but that does not change it into a crocodile. A butterfly thinks itself a bird. All these are strong sayings that I cannot help but think over in my head at this time of critical political negotiations in Kenya.

My 10th ancestor Ragem appeared to me again and gave me these perceptions. His main theme was that, politics is nothing but betrayal. He sent me the following key messages:

Raila: You were once denied PM when Kibaki betrayed MoU. This means you really do not mind it. Think what you can still do with such a position, than a mere MP. Presidency is given by the people (read God). You are bwogable, meaning God can make you serve anywhere. The good thing is that you know this.

Kalonzo: You don't have to be president to effect change in Kenya. You are young and can do much as a VP, or PM. Unbwogable leaders are George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Mwai Kibaki, Kenya Football Federation etc

Ruto: There is nothing wrong in gunning for the presidency again. If you hear presidency calling, just go for it. This is United Kenya, not Tribal Kenya.

Mudavadi: Learn from your mistakes. If you rise too soon, the dew of life can thaw your feet. A gentleman always say 'you first.'

Balala: You can be a darling among the rest of Kenya, and can actually be elected president. Remember Abdulla Shebe of Gor Mahia?

Ojiambo: If an African woman can marry another woman, to propagate her linage or safeguard her property from loss due to absence of a male child, you too can be president.

Kibaki: Toka

Nyaga: You can do it, if you believe you can fly! It does not matter that a Kikuyu was just president. We can elect you.

Uhuru: Not yet.

Meshack: Winam Republic should be our long term goal

Rev Otura: Majimbo is better than nothing at all, can be achieved eie.

Joram Ragem,
wuod Ndinya, wuod Onam, wuod Amolo, wuod Owuoth, wuod Oganyo, wuod Mumbe, wuod Odongo, wuod Olwande, wuod Adhaya, wuod Ojuodhi, woud Ragem! ( Are you my relative?)
