Re: KISUMU CITY HAS BECOME OBSOLETE WITH NO WATERS, ROAD SIGNS, OR STREET LIGHTS

From: Lucia Akech

The condition of Kisumu Town is an indication of how disfunctional the Luos are as family.I do not know how elected Luo officials at the local and national level are able to get away with this mess, particularly, when they describe what their official duties are. There was a time I was at Kisumu Airport and these individuals came in and went right into " VIP " departure lounge. When the time came to board the plane, they were given the first priority while "average Joe or Jane" waited.

There is an "absolute" leadership vacuum and the suffering public is silent or has been silenced by something or someone. Nobody is complaining! Government of Kenya is suppose to be a representative body in which every tribes has a voice. The elected officials from Luoland should represent that voice on behalf of the Luo people. They should work as team to home our share of the meat. For some reasons, these individuals are like captains of a sinking ship unable to work together to save the passengers or the boat.

It is unbelievable that Kisumu, a town surrounded with and rich in beautiful natural resources has no running water. Thus, people with toilets cannot flush them; people are releasing themselves everywhere and the elected representatives or people hire to run the town are walking in and out of the offices. You cannot assemble millions of people in a town and have them go to bathroom everywhere. This a catalyst for disaster.

I am sure Kisumu has a town council with departments of water and health headed by some man or woman. What are the job description of these individuals and why are they getting paid? Every job requires performance without which a person will be fired.

I think the wanaichi have allowed them to do this because they are not complaining, demostrating or stop paying for services that are paying for these criminals salaries. What these people are doing is robbery.

The Luos, as a family, is now viewed as HIV/AIDS ridden bunch of people by the rest of Kenya tribes; so much so that if you try to talk about other underdevelopments in Luoland, the response quickly turns the discussion of HIV/AIDS in Kisumu. "Why bother discussing anything else with a dying person" seems to be the subtle response.

The elections are coming at the end of the year, I am sure that current members of Parliament are now campaigning to get re-elected. The general case of amnesia by voting pupblic make these idiots come back year after year asking for votes they do not deserve. Some of them hire thugs to intimidate the general public and any opposing views. Can they be forced to explain they think they deserve to returned to parliament? Do they think they have the rights to hold these elected jobs by hook or crook?

As a tribe, the Luo community should no longer complain that other tribes have marginalize us. The condition of Kisumu indicates the elected officials have no regard for the majority of the people they represent. They just warm the benches and chairs in the *parliament building* taking care of themselves, their families and their close friends. When election comes, they set hired gangs on the defenseless voters. People with this kind of mindset should not be running or managing public affairs to begin with. Public representation requires strong leadership qualities. They are suppose to be public servants not bosses!!
