Mp defamed in Arum tiddi and jeff Otieno's articles

Dear Jaluo Dotkom,

I recently read a story posted on the Jaluo web about an alleged randy Mp in South Nyanza.

The stories by Leo Odero Omollo alias Arrum Tiddi and another annexed story by Jeff Otieno were intriguing to read.

Indeed one would not hesitate to break into silent laughter as you logged into the site to go through the beautifully choreographed reports with descriptions of the incident done to precision, signifying that perhaps the writers witnessed the ordeal eye to eye.

The stories of unnamed legislator left my heart submerged into painful lumps.

I shed tears as a mother, now aged 56, how the readers took it and as a constituent of Rongo where the incident is said to have taken place.

Since my daughter is married near Dede, I was forced to find out exactly what transpired on the ground and got a rude shock.

It was purely the reverse of what was reported in the website. I quickly recoiled in high fear and sigh of relief.

The story I realized had been blown out of proportion. The Mp’s political adversaries were at the centre of the engineering the rumours.

Infact they had formed a special team to move round the constituency to capitalize on the issue as an election issue.

I met one by coincidence, in Rongo Town, on my way to the district hospital. Luckily I knew him as a staunch supporter of Dalmas Otieno.

He openly and boldly told me that my Mp had snatched from a principal his wife and would not go back to parliament. I asked him, “Are you sure?”, twice, but he hesitated and went into meditative silence.

I fired the question, “Do you people have any proof?”, he laughed it off then he remarked, “Go and find out yourself. How comes you have not heard the rumour abound in the whole district?” he asked and quickly walked away.

I then dismissed the rumours as mere political propaganda calculated to finish the Mp who enjoys cordial relationship with Raila by his antics.

My appeal is to the prolific gutter writers to verify facts and figures. The law is not elusive of suing writers for publishing such stories in the web that are defamatory and borders on rumours.

Though this was a good read, the writers must have done it with malice. If such journalism can be allowed to continue rearing its ugly face in the public domain then it cements the argument why journalists do not want to be gagged.

Even though we have an effective judiciary, the most effective weapon to shape the society is through the Media, but their stories must be guided with tangible evidence to spare them the contents of defamation, libel and slander.

This is how some eminent personalities in Kenya have made millions out of the press reports that are inaccurate.

I appreciate the role of the journalists in society but urge them to uphold moral objectivity and fairness in ensuring balanced reporting.

And finally. let the Jaluo Dotkom try to moderate and control the influx of such scandalous stories, unless facts are verified. Otherwise kudos all jaluos logged to this website.

Raila is the man to watch come this years general elections. Please help us convince more persons from other tribes to vote for him.

Let us not assume that we will triumph but concentrate our energy and resources to marshal for him campaigns, more so among other non Luos.

Have a nice time ,nice day and prosperous campaigns for Raila Tosha ,Raila Ingia, Kibaki Toka. Those who want my telephone number can ask me. I will promptly avail it.

Bye bye.

Concerned resident,
Magdaline Achieng,
South Sakwa Awendo.
