Cyrus Jirongo's Western Influence

Politician cum businessman Jirongo a.k.a Cee-Jay, the infamous ex-Youth for KANU ’92 boss is scheduled to launch his bid for the Presidency at Muliro Gardens in Kakamega on Sept. 7th 2007.

Certainly with retired President Moi’s open support for Kibaki’s re-election, it is thus presumed that there is a high chance that the former Moi’s ‘spanner boy’ may galvanize Western Kenya support for both the opposition and Kibaki’s re-election.

In Lugari Constituency subtract KADUU’s Presidential aspirant Cyrus Jirongo and Western Kenya’s political equation alters with displacement of Kenya’s voting formula.

What Cyrus Jirongo has in mind now is political fluidity and a salacious appetite for the lascivious state house seat and he seems not to be having a wait-for-the-ball syndrome. He squirts visionary ideologies with a rather brave but manipulative political pulse that only appears anachronistic to the incumbent MP and his supporters.

The former architect of Youth for Kanu ’92 (YK92) which was a political movement that was credited with former president Moi’s return to power in 1992 is a political multi-strategist that many often take lightly.

Mr. Cyrus Jirongo, the KADDU party’s chairman seems to be a schemer with a national outlook though he still confines himself to his people in a regional and tribal cocoon. Being multi-regional in as far as politics is concerned, in the way he approaches political issues he finds no reason not to associate his party KADDU with the government, the larger NARC as a coalition and the opposition.

With a KADDU Youth Alliance within reach, he believes in creating more opportunities for the Youth and other citizens of Kenya through his large mother party.

In his Lugari constituency which is a cosmopolitan region in Western province that is currently been represented by Hon. Dr. Kibunguchi, Cyrus Jirongo is certain to recapture the seat that was previously his.

During his campaigns in1997, his vision for Lugari Constituents was to alleviate poverty and he was to do that by establishing good governance in Lugari politics.

As for Cyrus Jirongo it is time to re-redeem his currently felt popularity laced with courage even with ODM-Kenya quarters around. His KADDU party had previously had a higher stake of forming a coalition with Raila’s ODM party with presidential aspirant Musalia Mudavadi as a schemer and strategist for Western Kenya votes. Unfortunately, Moi has come in to spoil the literally bull’s match.

For Cyrus Jirongo, come December this year, the people of Lugari constituency who share the same ideological convictions and leadership visions with their leaders have made a communal resolution to be in government.

As it had previously mentioned, he may go back to parliament either as a nominated MP or may be part of the sitting government which may impose him with the wishes of Lugari constituents. Many still remember in 1997 when he said that he shall not sell President Kibaki and the party he is affiliated to in Lugari. It is unfortunate that he is doing the opposite now and the residents who are predominantly Luhya are very anxious with his current political stand.

This move unfortunately has made the Luhya to water down hopes of the community to produce a national president. Unfortunately, Presidential aspirant Musalia Mudavadi, being a Maragoli, is seen to be a man with few votes in that the Maragoli sub-tribe of the larger Luhya community are segregated when it comes to voting ad leadership. To them Maragolis cannot influence the voting system in Western Kenya.

Even as Kenyan politics revolve around tribes, the aspiring Lugari MP and KADDU’s Presidential candidate and who is a Tiriki by tribe believes that Luhyas would love to have one of their own as President.

For the majority Luhya this is utter political blasphemy to the whole community for Maragolis and Tirikis alone cannot determine the voting pattern of Western region. Thus to counter the incumbent’s solitude stand of managing political affairs, Lugari residents have vowed this time round to literally hit back in the only way they understand best to give him their communal votes.

Lugari residents want Cuyrus Jirongo whom they believe is politically mature and experienced and a pragmatic leader to help guarantee their economic and development resurrection with or without Moi’s and Kibaki’s influences.

Under KADDU, Jirongo has demonstrated qualities that have proven that he has the capacity not only to be an MP but a future president of Kenya than any other leader from Western Province.

For Cyrus Jirongo, he has proven to be ever visionary, loyal and politically worth his persona. He had previously been a KANU loyalist during Moi’s tenure to becoming an official of the then unregistered UDM party.

In 1992 he mobilised youth nationally under Youth for KANU ’92 (YK92), which made former President Moi return to power. He also participated in more coordinated and structured Harambees than any other MP or politician in the region. It should also be recalled that Cyrus Jirongo has a significant role of bankrolling the Luhya Unity Initiative (LUI) through organised rallies in Western Kenyan come Friday 7th of September. Certainly, relying on ODM presidential aspirant Musalia Mudavadi to deliver Western Kenyan votes would be a mistake. It ought to be an all inclusive affair if the opposition really wants to take over from the incumbent President..

Regards,
Mundia Mundia Jnr.
