KENYA DAY: Call for Exhibition Proposals

KENYA DAY on September 26 2007

Introduction

The Kenya Staff Association, in collaboration with the KCA (Kenyan Community Abroad), has initiated the Kenya Day with a goal is to celebrate Kenya's culture and promote Kenya as a tourist destination. It is also aimed at promoting Kenyan arts and cultural businesses based in the US through recognizing them as Cultural Ambassadors.

Kenya Day's first venue would be at the World Bank's Eugene Black auditorium. The primary audience would be the international World Bank staff, therefore exposing and promoting Kenya's culture to an immediate global audience.

Vision

Kenya Day is envisioned to become an annual highlight at the World Bank, from where it will move to a different venue for maximum exposure. This move will help achieve KCA's goal of establishing a cultural center that will build up Cultural Ambassadors for Kenya. The Center will exist as an annual festival and/or a calendar of cultural activities in collaboration with other organizations and businesses. It will draw Kenyan performers and exhibitors from across the globe.

Partnerships:

Groups, organizations and businesses that have come together to organize the inaugural Kenya Day to be held on Wednesday, September 26th 2007 include:

1. KSA (Kenya Staff Association), World Bank
2. KCA (Kenyan Community Abroad: www.kenyansabroad.org )
3. Balozi Productions (www.baloziproductions.com )

Exhibition:

This will include:

1. Stage performances
2. Display of craftwork and visual arts
3. Promotion of businesses that promote Kenya¡¦s culture (e.g., travel and tour guide companies, curio stores, culinary business, fashion, etc)

A call to participate

KCA and KSA call on Kenyan performing artists, visual artists, crafts, culinary, fashion, travel and touring businesses to send in a bid to be included in the exhibition.

?« Tabling and performance space will be free.
?« Exhibitions and events start at 10am and end at 5pm
?« You will be expected to hand in a brief proposal clearly stating the nature of your cultural business
?« You may not engage in any buying or selling of merchandize, services or tickets within the premises.
?« You are encouraged to promote your business, art or craft through flyers, word of mouth, and any other non-commercial way.
?« The KSA and KCA will provide publicity for the event.

**All participants will receive official recognition and appointment on behalf of the Kenya government as Cultural Ambassadors.**
