ODM SHOULD LIBERALISE MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT DRIVE

The craze in Orange House with aspirants pouring in to collect their nomination forms alongside the party’s membership cards is sufficient manifestation of where the hearts of Kenyans are. It is even more encouraging the order and calm that prevails within the vicinity where parliamentary and civic aspirants patiently wait for their turn to be served. Some wait for a whole day, having arrived by early morning buses from their upcountry locations. There is total coordination right from the main gate through the cashier to the offices where the forms and cards are issued. All these, coupled with the presidential nomination conducted in September, has proved that ODM is indeed a government in waiting, poised to restore order in the running of public affairs and bring sanity to governance which so far is wanting in all segments.

On the membership recruitment drive through purchase of membership cards in bulk by aspirants, it is indeed a wonderful idea to distribute through the said aspirants who will monitor and ensure that crooks do not sell fictitious cards to our members. On the other hand, I have evidence of an overwhelming desire by most Kenyans just to join ODM through buying the cards, which currently go for at kshs 10, but are not aware of how to acquire one. The aspirants will not reach these majority, especially within this short period to the party nomination and presidential election due in December. It is against this dilemma that we the supporters of ODM suggest that the secretariat opens centers within the major towns from where the public can queue up and buy the cards. Alternatively, they can contract the sale so that all Kenyans can have an opportunity to feel part of this great party, at least by having an ODM card in their wallets. As an aspirant, I have had serious problems explaining to ODM members who do not come from my constituency that I cannot sell to them the cards. I understand their frustration and hope this will be an alarm to our secretariat to urgently devise a way out.
