DOMINION FARM HAS CHANGED THE LIVING STANDARDS OF THE POOR RURAL FOLKS.

By Leo Odera Omolo.

The Dominion Farms Limited an American multinational firm that has turned the swampy land in Yala River in Siaya district as a new bastion of massive food production has also changed the living standards of the locals.

It is envisaged that at the peak of its production DFL will produce 17,920 tones of milled rice, 15, 306 tones of brokens, 30, 600 tones of hulls or fuel pellets and 9,180 tones of rice bran.

Dominion Farms Limited will also produce 122, 400 tones of rice straw pellets, 30, 600 tonnes of rice straw for houses and 3,000 tones of animal feed not to mention 20,000 tonnes of fish and thousands of bottles of honey annually.

All these are revealed in a quarterly in house fabulous magazine entitled Dominion Farm News.

It says, ??the task of marketing all these products as efficiently as possible has been assigned to Dominion Farms Limited?s business department, which is based at 7th floor in AIG House at Eden Square along Chiromo Road in Westlands suburbs of the Kenyan Capital, Nairobi.

The manager in charge, according to the in-house magazine of the Nairobi office is Mr. Simon Kimani who joined the Yala River based firm in August 2005 after attaining 13 years experience in financial management elsewhere.

Mr. Kimani?s docket entails conductive market survey for products and launching of the same. His brief also includes penetration and segmentation of markets for Dominion Farms Limited products while liaising with other market intermediaries.

Under the stewardships of Mr. Kimani, DFL Nairobi officer?s role is to undertake market development.

The Nairobi office also studies market trends and competition in order to know market players and areas of strength vis a vis the competition. It is from this office that DFL identifies the needs of its potential customers so as to match them with the products it intend to produce.

The firm?s office based in the capital offers support service to other departments of the company, especially the production department to ensure their produce meets the market standards, goes full circle and reaches maturity.

The office under Mr. Kimani also handles matters related to advertising and promotion of the company?s products, transport and distribution network of the same and product design and packaging.

At the moment Mr. Kimani also runs a fish project that entails acquisition, distribution and storage aimed at creating a marketing network for the thousands of tones of fish which Dominion Farms Limited intends to produce at the pack of its operation at Yala Swamp.

Early this year the Kenya government assured the Dominion Group of Companies, the owners of Dominion Farms Limited at Yala Swamp of its full support.

The message of assurance was delivered at the term by none other than the Kenyan Minister for Regional Development Hon. Mohammed Abdi when he received a delegation from the company led by the Dominion Group President Mr. Calvin Burgess, at his Ministry?s Headquarters in Nairobi.
