No sooner had the dust settles on the recent released opinion poll by a reputable research company that comfortably placed ODM flag bearer Hon Raila Amollo Odinga ahead of the pack, of the three presidential aspirants gunning for the highest office in the land, than a global movement urges the ODM to set time frame for embracement of majimboism-type of government.

The Christian Democratic Movement of Kenya (CDMK), Kenya chapter, under the tutelage of Rev Okoth Otura, William Odiwuor, at a meeting hosted by the movement’s roving ambassador in Germany and Switzerland,Mr. Nackinson Osare, unanimously resolved that ODM should set a timetable for regional government elections-after wresting the reigns of power from the incumbent regime.

The opinion poll outcome by the Steadman international company broke from the previous incessant opinion poll findings which have been largely in favuor of the current president Hon Mwia Kibaki, amazingly eluded the incumbent, placing him in the far second position, with the ODM-Kenya presidential candidate performing disastrously.

Langata legislator comfortably led the pack of the trio presidency contestants with a staggering 47%, Kibaki 38% and Kalonzo 8%.

After the adoption of much yearned- for federalism type of government and prior to regional elections, the officials appealed to the would-be jimbo voters to intelligently identify the leaders who will run for the federal seats countrywide.

Speaking on phone from Canada: "choose leaders with leadership qualities to occupy the federal offices for effective representation" quipped Otura, who is exiled in Canada for political reasons.

Rev. Okoth Otura sandwitched by Mr. Nakinson Osare and CDMK Official.

CDMK officials challenged the ODM echelon to consider flexing its political muscles by exhibiting open -door-policy-after assuming power, to political parties such as Shirikisho, whose policies are akin to the ODM.For this, they said, is the right direction towards realization of social democracy.

Kenyans through majimbo will not only enjoy fully the political and economic gains of their respective immense resources.

But also other large scale benefits that goes with the decentralization of governance and devolution of power.

And that the head of all jimbos must be given the title of authority-either the provincial governor or premier and must have its cabinet and provincial Member of Parliament. (PMP), they reiterated.

Globally, healthy federalism, citizens run their own governments without interference from Federal National Executive-they give strictly political and economic direction to avert future marginalization and remitting regional taxes to the central government’ coffers.

The trio spelt out some of the key areas that locals must be given exclusive powers to decide on what affects them: Elect their suitable leaders, ensuring cheque and balances on their tax expenditures, decision on projects to prioritize and protection of their environment.

Others are education, infrastructural development, regional planning, agriculture, livestock and tousism. Also law enforcement, judiciary and family planning.

Not left out are mineral exploration and exploitation, land and land laws.

Further, Kenyans both in the Diaspora and homeland highly expect the ODM’s offing government to create the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), to heal the worst decades of political and economical crimes-read landmark scandals, political assassinations and land clashes among others ills of the yesteryears.

To starters, Mr. Osare who played host to the CDMK officials is one of the key strategists of the 1982 coup de tat cum one of the longest serving political asylum seekers, spaning two decades in exile.

He was one of the high profile leaders of the defunct Kenya Revolutionary Front (KRF).

Osare, who is fluent in German and also a computer specialist, is widely-traveled and currently lives in Germany, forged a united front with CDMK, to top-gear the realization of majimbo system in Kenya.

He was not only instrumental in the Kenya’s second liberation, but also assisted tens and thousands of Kenyans to flee from the wrath of the then ruling party, height of dictatorship.

And his selfless struggle for the same is succinctly recorded in the Kenya’s annals of history.

The CDMK Diaspora call for federalism comes hot on the heels of one of the ODM’s pentagon William Ruto, who hinted that Majimbo is likely to be adopted in six months time, if they form the next government.
