MR RAILA ODINGA, PLEASE SPEAK THE TRUTH

The ODM adherents have not hesitated to label this document as a mere piece of PNU propaganda aimed at scuttling their candidate's chances of becoming the republic's fourth president.  The question that they are not addressing is this; where is the real MOU that Raila Odinga signed with the Muslims?

For the while that the majimbo debate has been raging on, my reservaions about this system of governance have been informed by the fact that possible evictions of people from areas not considered to be their original homes which may ensue should this system of governance be introduced is not a figment of anybody's imagination.  It is an event that could come to pass without any doubt.

Not at any time have I considered the possibilities of Muslims in the Coast and North Eastern provinces attempting to use Majimbo as a means of carrying out their religious mischief in the name of Sharia law against the the rest of the people of Kenya.

The purpoted MOU clearly states that chief among the aspirations of Muslims in the two provinces is to have the right to put in place and implement Sharia Law in those regions.  Do they want to turn parts of Kenya into Kano and Baluchi states of Nigeria?  Surely ODM must try to seek for votes and power in the right way without resorting to such extreme and desperate measures.  I woudn't want to see our peaceful country turned into a haven for Islamic zealots and terrorists.

If this document currently circulating on the web is not authentic, why can't ODM provide us with the real deal so that we may have the opportunity to see what Raila actually pledged to do for the Muslims should he be elected?  I for one will not vote for a candidate hellbent on dividing this country along tribal and religious grounds.  A candidate like this whether in ODM or PNU is a plain  danger and menace to Kenya.  Kenya would do well without such a leader.

To ODM adherents, be informed that there are many ways that the equitable distribution of resources in Kenya could be achieved and pure Majimbo is not the only gospel truth.  I've come across people offering diverse suggestions on the way forward with regard to the best way to achieve social justice in Kenya.  Some have cited USA and South Africa as prime examples where Majimbo is working.  I'd like to point out that we cannot equate ourselves with the USA because our circurmstances are totally different from those in the USA.  Furthermore we mustn't forget that the USA had to endure a ferocious civil war between the Northern Jimbos and the Southern Jimbos before it got to where it is.  Do we really need to go through such horrendous and painful experiences in the quest for a better country?  Surely we can do it in a whole different way without opting for the balkanisation of our country into religious and tribal enclaves?

As for South Africa, what they have is not a purely Majimbo system.  The provinces that exist in that country do not have any powers to raise taxes.  The provincial governments' function is to decide where resources are to be channeled after receiving their allocations from the treasury in Pretoria.  It is some kind of CDF on a provincial scale.  The structure of governance they have in the provinces  is merely an appendage of the central government in that the provincial legislatures  do not possess any powers to influence what is decided at the centre in as far as resource allocation is concerned.  Furthermore SA has a very powerful presidential system to boot.  Therefore we in Kenya should not rush headlong in a direction that may end up in this country being torn apart. Besides trying to justify such a misguided move with what other countries have adopted as their systems of governance is purely simplistic to say the least.

My final appeal is this; ODM and Raila, come forward with the whole truth regarding this secret pact you have with the Muslims before Kenyans make up their minds.
