KCA PRESS RELEASE: Stop this violence now!

KCA calls for tough actions.

The insecurity and poll violence that have plagued the country ever since the campaign mood engulfed the scene are of great concern to The Kenyan Community Abroad (KCA).

The list is endless: from stone throwing and mob justice during the party primaries to the endless killings in Kuresoi; from the cold blood police executions to the killing of an innocent boy; from the killings of hundreds of people to the displacement of thousands of families in land clashes.

That the general election is only three weeks away, and that the campaigns have reached their acme, are not the slightest justifications to engage in these sad, brutal and killings most foul.

Despite this evident pile of rubble, the provincial administration and the police are keeping their heads in the sand as if nothing really happened. Only baby steps are taken to appease the public. KCA is tired of empty rhetoric from the police of massive crackdowns to hunt these criminals.  The sober truth is that the police have exhibited laxity in containing these criminal activities.

And the timing of these acts of violence could not be worse, coming as they do on the very last days to the general election.

KCA believes very strongly the police have done little to contain these flare ups that have simmered every election year.

We call upon the President himself to take charge of the security of the country and ensure all those who have been involved in these criminal activities are brought to book within the rules of law.

Further, KCA urges all the presidential, parliamentary and civic candidates to stay true to the democratic principles of violence free campaigns.

Issue oriented, mature, tolerant and clean campaigns are what are capable of steering our nascent political process to respectable levels. We counsel tolerance on the part of politicians and wananchi. We urge all Kenyans to embrace love, which is the greatest gift from God, as an enshrinement in our values.

Long live Kenya !
