MOI STOPPED FROM ADDRESSING PNU RALLY IN RIFT VALLEY

MOI LOCKED OUT OF RALLY VENUE BY YOUTHS IN RIFT VALLEY
FORMER President Daniel Moi was today stopped from addressing a rally at the border of Uasin Gishu and Nandi North District after youths stopped his organizers from setting up the grounds for the rally.

Anti-riot police from Langas and a section of security personnel from the Kapsabet rushed to Mulango area to contain the situation but rowdy youths insisted that they were not ready to listen to Moi's rhetoric which they said undermined ODM presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Efforts by Kanu long time politician Ezekiel Barngetuny to calm the crowd of about 500 people were futile. The locals instead demanded to be paid Kshs2, 000 each to allow the rally to take off.

Earlier, the group cordoned off the venue and never allowed for organizers to erect tents, accusing them of enriching themselves with PNU campaign money.

Even as Barngetuny endeavoured to restore sanity saying that Moi should be given maximum respect following his enormous development during his regime, the youths chanting ODM slogans told him off accusing him of being part of leaders hawking the community for a living.

"You are among the people who have misused us for so long and now after we replaced you with Kibaki you are still coming back with your outdated ideas and asking us to support Kibaki whom we have also decided to vote out," said a youth leader Joseph Rono.

Nandi North DC Mabeya Mogaka whose jurisdiction extends to the area held talks with Barngetuny and after weighing several options, he cancelled the meeting on security grounds.

Together with Barngetuny, others leaders who included Peter Boit, Ben Letting, Daniel Tabut and David Chepsiror blamed the chaos witnessed in the area on ODM leaders.

"It is sad for to see drunkard youth resist to listen to Moi speech. All this was planned by ODM leaders and now I believe they are happy at wherever they are to hear that Moi's meeting has been cancelled," said Barngetuny.

Moi's decision to support PNU and Kibaki's re-election bid has put him into loggerhead with majority members of his community who subscribe to ODM.
