Raila Odinga

Raila indeed is a down to earth guy. I met and talked to him in November 2002. In fact he surprised me a great deal when he stopped to listen to me, an ordinary man. When I called him later in December of that year, before the general election, to protest his support of Kibaki he answered my call politely.

Those of us who have had opportunity to call or meet a number of other ODM leaders express the same view that these guys are ordinary like us and totally accessible. I called Prof Anyang Nyong'o soon after ODM primaries and the guy answered all my questions yet he had not known me before. You can reach and talk to Gen Koech, Ruto , Balala, Musalia and a host of other ODM leaders. They are approachable and humble something I never saw in leadership during Kenyatta and Moi years. That is the secret of popularity of Raila and his friends in ODM.

In contrast, PNU of Kibaki , Michuki , Murungi, Muite, Murungaru, Mwiraria, Kombo, Nyahchae, Moi and all other recruits, is a paradise of the proud, arrogant, unreacheable and detached fellows. Most of these people suffer from a disease called COLONIAL MENTALITY.The symptoms of the disease are numerous ranging from I Before Others (IBO) to I and My Friend(s) (IMF).

No doubt we hear and see Moi thumbing his chest and arrogantly claims that his choice, Emilio Mwai Kibaki, will win. I see Babylonian and Persian ancient spirit in PNU. The spirit is proud, violent, senseless, dumb and totally detached from reality. ODM resonates with voters while PNU is driven by deception.
