Kalonzo's Miracle Is Kenya's Curse!

Considering the crisis affecting our country, I will be the first one to admit that it is not the right time to put personal politics ahead of national interest. In fact, like most Kenyans, I urge each and every one of us to put aside our own biases and postpone our ambitious agendas in order to unite as one people and save our dear nation.

Like most of you, I have been cracking my brain trying to decipher where and how we went wrong. Obviously, most of the blame lies squarely on the Electoral Commission and its "bipolar" chairman-who can't decide who won or lost the recent presidential election. His gross incompetence has delivered Kenya the worst kind of confusion and mayhem.

The present political stalemate, which threatens turning Kenya into another "African basket-case," has been caused by the nefarious elements- corrupt/inept ECK officials and power-hungry politicians whose goal is to grab power and completely stifle the will of the people.

In my view if Kenya had its fair share of true statesmen and stateswomen the present calamity would have been avoided. If certain political forces acted in the best interest of the citizenry, we would have had a more conclusive presidential election whose outcome would have been clear, indisputable, and not susceptible to easy manipulation.

Personally, I am so disgusted with the current rank of our political leaders that none should be spared the wrath of the people. Sure, it is easier to blame either Kibaki or Raila because both men directly represent and personify the current political stalemate in Kenya, but let us not spare or excuse Kalonzo Musyoka.

We all recall how during the election period Kalonzo Musyoka, the ODM-K presidential candidate, came out in bluster and bravado and promised Kenyans a miracle of Herculean proportion.

Well, it is tragic that Kalonzo's "delusional" miracle has contributed to the current crisis in Kenya. It is ironic in his search for a miracle; Kalonzo has brought a deadly curse upon all Kenyans.

Okay! I know some might deem such strong accusations as unjust, absurd, and motivated by deep-held dislike for Mr. Musyoka but let us examine some of the facts.

Firstly, Kalonzo Musyoka knew he had no chance of winning the State House in 2007. All indications-the opinion polls, the people's preference, and the word on the street-showed he lacked the needed national support.

Nationally, Kalonzo's presidential candidature had been made irrelevant by Kenyans who largely preferred either Raila or Kibaki.

However, Kalonzo refused to recognize and accept the "reality" delivered by the Kenyan people and instead embarked on his journey of "political miracles."

Now, I am not impugning Kalonzo's constitutional right to run for the presidency because I have no right to do so. Just like you and I, Kalonzo Musyoka has every right to run for president but what riles me is his hypocrisy and "holier-than-thou" attitude, especially considering he bares blame for the devastation affecting Kenya today.

You see Kalonzo Musyoka is no true prophet but neither is he a mere fool. He never expected his political miracle to ever come true despite his public proclamations. He said all these things not because he believed them but because he wanted to raise his national profile and create false hope for voters in the Ukambani area.

Kalonzo understands the chronic poverty which affects most Kenyans in Ukambani. Unfortunately, he chose to exploit the peoples suffering by guaranteeing them the presidency and promising them impossible miracles instead of offering them tangible, meaningful, and achievable development.

As a result, close to seven hundred thousand presidential votes were wasted on Kalonzo Musyoka. As we all know, apart from the Ukambani area, where Kalonzo's deception took root and his tribal origin earned him sympathy, he lost abysmally around the country. Moreover, he convinced Kenyan people who became victim to the "Kalonzo Euphoria/Madness" in Ukambani to reelect certain failing MPs in various constituencies.

Realizing that he lacked national support way before the voting date, Kalonzo Musyoka should have done the right thing for Kenya and dropped out of the presidential race. As a true statesman, which he mistakenly claims to be, the MP from Mwingi North should have encouraged his supporters to vote for either Raila or Kibaki-the two people who stood a viable chance of becoming the next Kenyan president.

In fact, Kalonzo would have served Kenya best if he was more candid and decisive in his politics and threw his support behind either Raila or Kibaki. It is my contention if seven hundred thousand Kenyan votes were not wasted on Kalonzo and were cast in favor of either Raila or Kibaki, Kenya would have achieved a more decisive and conclusive presidential election.

I am not underestimating the evil forces capable of manipulating election results and completely suffocating the will of the Kenyan people. Based on the current situation, we are fully convinced that their evil knows no bounds! And although it may seem premature to state with certainty that if Kalonzo was not in the presidential race the current political standoff would have been avoided, I have to question Kalonzo's role as a true Kenyan statesman.

When Kenya needed Kalonzo most, he failed to do the right thing for country. In stead he promised as a political miracle which achieved the unthinkable by turning bread into stone!

I will not be surprised if during this difficult time, Kalonzo comes out to exploit the situation and promises Kenyans more miracles, which are at best deceiving and at worst attainable.
